2016 Tacoma vs Tundra

When you’re looking for a new truck, there are a lot of options to review. Two we find our customers tend to have trouble deciding between are the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra. The 2016 models have just hit the showroom floor and we can see why this would be an issue; they’re both great trucks. If you’re stuck deciding between the two, here’s a quick rundown to help you decide.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is the truck for adventurers. It’s strong, spacious, intelligent, and ready for the road less traveled. The Toyota Tacoma delivers competitive gas mileage, lots of power under the hood, a 6.800 lb. towing capacity, and a comfortable full size cab that seats 5. On top of that, the Tacoma can be outfitted with some hardy extras like the composite truck bed, or the covered truck bed. It’s a truck that combines work and play.

The Tacoma is built for those who want to push the boundaries of where they can go – those who chase new perspectives and higher heights. If off-roading, mudding, or hill-crawling is your idea of a good time, we suggest the Tacoma. It’s 4×4 capabilities surpass the Tundra, and it still has a strong towing package with plenty of room for other passengers in the cab. It’s less family oriented than the Tundra, but that doesn’t mean it can’t handle a group.

The 2016 Toyota Tundra

Although these two trucks are pretty similar, the Toyota Tundra shines in a few specific areas. Most notably, the towing. In 2012, the Toyota Tundra singlehandedly towed the Space Shuttle Endeavor. Granted this was their CrewMax version, but it’s still unbelievable. You’ve got to see the video:

Out of this world, we know. In all seriousness, the 2016 Toyota Tundra was built to tow. The Tundra comes with two engine choices. The first is a 4.6-Liter V8 that produces 310 horsepower and 327 lb.-ft. of torque. The second is a 5.7-Liter V8 that overpowers it by 70 horsepower and torque. With the towing package, this engine has the ability to pull over 10,000 lbs. If you’re pulling anything sizable, the Tundra is your best bet.

Apart from that, the Tundra is a great family truck. It’s got a spacious interior, tons of power, and it’s incredibly safe. Features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic, 8 airbags including knee airbags for the front passengers, and Toyota’s Star Safety System™ set this truck apart from all others.
