We like to highlight local organizations that do good work in our community, and today that is Saving Grace, a nonprofit that finds permanent homes for homeless animals.
Saving Grace houses about 60-80 dogs at any particular time, which they find through local animal shelters. Due to space constraints, they only accept dogs that do well around other dogs and people. Once at SG, the dogs get plenty of fresh air and sunshine so they can run and play with one another. Dogs are given instruction in basic manners (leash walking, sitting, not jumping on people, crating, etc.) while they adjust to their temporary home.
Dogs at Saving Grace are observed, and when it’s determined that they’re ready to be adopted, any outstanding medical requirements are met (spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart worming, and flea and tick prevention). They are then outfitted with a microchip to associate them with their adopter and Saving Grace.
If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, Saving Grace will send whomever is interested a survey about their lifestyle, living habits, family composition and living situation. Based on that information, SG will search for an appropriate match, and forward the information when it’s available.
Saving Grace has more information at its site about events it hosts or co-sponsors to raise awareness, as well as directions for volunteers. No experience with dogs is needed to volunteer, so if you’d like to work with animals, this might be a good opportunity for you.
If you need any further convincing to adopt or volunteer, read through a few of the 25 pages of stories on their website; any resistance you have will be dissolved.
During December, Leith Toyota will donate $100 to Saving Grace for every new Toyota that it sells, so if you’re considering a purchase and would like to help a good cause, think of us. We think Saving Grace is a wonderful group of people doing something meaningful, and we hope they inspire us all to do something worthwhile.
