Have you been wanting to support a good cause? You might be interested in the breast cancer awareness walk that Leith Toyota is sponsoring this Saturday morning. More than one thousand people will be out walking at North Hills, beginning at 9 a.m. to raise funds and awareness about this health problem.
As you can see at Making Strides’ website, more than one hundred teams are participating with about $115,000 pledged thus far. The event will be held no matter what the weather, although the forecast for Saturday has a pleasant high of 72 degrees with some cloud cover. It should be a perfect fall day. Want to know how it all works? Here’s the breakdown:
- Participants check-in at 7:30 a.m. People will be mingling and getting psyched for the walk, so this is a fun part of the event.
- Even if you have signed up online to participate, you still need to check in at 7:30. There will be a paper registration form that is mandatory for everyone, even you online folks.
- Feel free to bring your cash or check donations to the event. We can take them on the spot, though it looks like we’re unable to swipe cards at this time.
- At 8 a.m., the opening ceremonies will commence. Hosted by Barbara Gibbs, Anchor ABC11 Eyewitness News, and DJ Jermaine Taylor of Radio One, there will be a singing of the national anthem and a Zumba dance warm-up to raise those energy levels.
- 9 a.m. we walk!
Parking is free, and all participants should meet at 7:30 a.m. at 100 Main at North Hills at the park stage behind Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant. The total distance will be about 3 miles, but this is not a timed event and there is no obligation to finish if you are feeling unwell. Refreshments will be available after the walk, and no pets or bicycles will be allowed in the walk (sorry!).
You can sign-up and donate here, and we look forward to seeing you this Saturday!
