This week, Car and Driver released the scoop on an updated Toyota Rav4, packed with new features and an exciting new engine option. The Rav4 comes in four different trim levels starting at $25,250, and topping out at $32,410. Here’s how the models break down.

Engine

First off it’s important to note that all Toyota Rav4 trim levels come with the 2.5-liter four cylinder that produces 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel drive Rav4 with this engine achieves 24mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway, while the all-wheel drive version loses a few at 22/29.

If you’re interested in boosting either the power or the efficiency, look no further than the Rav4 Hybrid option. The hybrid makes 194 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque, and still offers drivers 31/34 city/highway mpg. That’s a solid engine!

Now let’s go over the models.

LE

The base model LE sits on 17-inch steel wheels, comes with a 6.1-inch infotainment screen, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and USB connectivity. It’s also equipped with a limited-slip function, hill-hold assist, and trailer sway control – all priced at $25,250.

XLE

Starting at $27,170, the XLE model boosts the resolution of the 6.1-inch touch screen, allows you to pair your smartphone apps to the car, and tosses in HD and SiriusXM satellite radio. All of that sitting atop 18-inch aluminum wheels. The all-wheel version will cost $28,570, and the XLE hybrid will run you $29,270 sans AWD.

SE

SE is a new trim level that brings a little sportiness to the Rav4. Toyota has tightened up the suspension for better handling and added paddle shifters, LED head/tail lights, and a more striking front bumper. The big news for the SE is the exclusive styling. Toyota is offering two-tone paint choices, adding a silver trim to the Rav4, and outfitting the interior with the synthetic Toyota SofTex leather (which is actually more practical than real leather). The SE will also offer a few extra safety settings, which include cross traffic alert and bling spot monitoring. All this starts at $30,165.

Limited

The only trim level that is an actual word. The Limited is the top of the line Toyota Rav4, and it’s packed with Toyota’s full suite of safety equipment. That includes (apart from everything mentioned above) pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and lane departure warning. The Limited also comes with an updated infotainment system that has a larger touch screen, the Entune App suite, and an optional 360-degree camera system. The Limited starts at $32,410.
