Of all the things we talk about concerning Toyotas, one subject is surprisingly easy to overlook: the seats. A recent slate of rankings, however, from J.D. Power’s 2014 Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study will ensure we won’t be forgetting about the seat of our pants in Raleigh anytime soon. Toyota did pretty well in the study, with nearly one in three top awards going to a Toyota vehicle.

The way the study works was to divide all vehicles into seven segments (sedan, van, truck, etc.) J.D. Power then solicited opinions from 86,000 new vehicle owners and lessees. The organization asked about seats, seat belts, and whether any problems revealed themselves within the first 90 days of driving. Side note: Whoever made the 90 day rule must have a bad relationship go sour on them within the first 90 days; why not just wait a solid year?

In any case, within each of the seven vehicle segments, the three vehicles with the fewest number of problems became the three champions for that segment. Seven segments with three champions apiece makes for 21 champions overall, and Toyota placed six champions (hence nearly one in three). The Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Lexus RX and Scion iQ were the exemplary six.

Good seats are something we take seriously in Raleigh. With all the construction going on I-440 and so many other streets in our city, there are a lot of potholes, uneven surfaces, broken asphalt and occasionally dirt roads to encounter. All of that can be jarring on a vehicle, so it’s good to know that your Toyota will hold up well to the rigors of life in this enduring mortal coil.

Of course comfort is just as important as durability, so we encourage you to try out our seats for yourself and let the craftsmanship do the talking. Really get in there with our seats; please, don’t hold back. We sure don’t. Stop by your Toyota dealer in Raleigh (that’s us) to sample seats in whatever way seems normal to you.
